02/26/02 Featured Grower Chat - Dave Stelts

Forward By Jim Kilbert

Back around 1994, there was a young gardener who loved to grow pumpkins, the bigger the pumpkin the better! As hard as he tried, Dave could not get a pumpkin over 200#s. On a whim, he decided to attend a grower seminar held by the O.V.G.P.G. and led by Tim Parks. Better educated, and with better seeds, Dave grew a 447#er in 1995. The following year, 1996, he was awarded the "Howard Dill Award" in Ohio, for a 680# pumpkin, that was voted "most beautiful"! A year later, Dave took 1st place in Ohio with his "infamous" 801.5#er. This pumpkin was grown on the Shymanski 825.5, and pollinated with Jerry Rose's 562. A very orange pumpkin with Mombert 567.5 genetics on both sides. He also lost a 784#er that year from mice. In 1998, Dave grew a 700#er. Was this the end? Not quite! He tried once more, and in 1999,grew a 705#er that went down with a disappointing split before weigh-off. The 705 was from an 801.5 seed that Dave crossed with the Mettler 974, and had 6 lobes. The rest is history!

The Stelts 705 that Dave planted in 2000, ended up growing his World Record Pumpkin, "Babe"! Tempted by the prospects for larger prize money, Dave asked his father what to do. His dad replied, "Well, Dave, Who brought you to the dance?" It was a glorius day in Canfield, Ohio, when Dave shared his World Record with his close family and friends. It's not all about money, you know.

The Stelts 801.5 seed has been a consistent producer of fine, large, ORANGE, pumpkins. It produced Jack LaRue's 1010 in 2000, and also the Calai 846, which in turn, has produced 4 pumpkins over 1000#s (Skinner 1109, Papez 1020, Stelts 1053.5, & Handy 1167). It was also used to pollinate Geneva Emmons 2001 World record 1262#.

The Stelts 705 seed has produced the Stelts 1140 World Record, as well as many others, including The Daletas 1016 & 1230, and the Holland 1049. When it boils down to which seeds one should try for a rewarding nice, orange, pumpkin, it reminds me of a quote from one of Dave's fellow growers: "Got stelts?"

This Featured Grower Chat was sponsored by Neptune's Harvest

John D.: Dave's Nickname is Buckeyepollinator.
Ken D.: Dave must be limbering up his fingers....
pumpkin kid: This should be a interesting chat with Dave
John D.: We should take this time to thank our generous sponsor, Neptune's Harvest.
Ken D.: Yes, we will be doing a drawing for some product later tonight.
FARMER TOM: Neptunes Harvest is cool
Brian C.: I'll go on record and say their products are good I used them last year
John D.: If you do decide to purchase their products online, let them know that we sent you.
FARMER TOM: so who will be asking "what's your favorite website" tonight?
John D.: That's my question.
John D.: Special thanks to Kilr for putting this chat together!
FARMER TOM: Kilr is cool
John D.: Allow me to Introduce Dave!
Ken D.: Welcome to BigPumpkins.com Dave. It is a pleasure to have you in our chat!
FARMER TOM: (applause)
John D.: Hello Dave, welcome to BigPumpkins.com Featured Grower Chat!
Ken D.: Are you ready to get a couple of questions from all over the world?
Buckeyepollinator: sorry running a little late
pumpkin kid: Dave break out that typing finger
Buckeyepollinator: fire away
Case: holy geeze...
Pappy: We're all star struck
Ken D.: Dave, how many plants do you grow and how much space per plot?
Buckeyepollinator: 12 plants about 750 sq. feet
jeff352: What % of orgainc matter is your growing plot
John G: What do use for an insecticide for borers?
FARMER TOM: Why do you let your plants die of disease, and why did you allow the disease to kill your 705 plants?
Buckeyepollinator: Furadan nasty stuff u need a haz. pestacide to use
Pappy: What do you use for powdery mildew?
Buckeyepollinator: Daconil.
DW Keel: What do you think are the top 5 seeds today?
K&PBlair: What type of vine pattern do you preffer?
Buckeyepollinator: x-mas tree and I meant daconil and nova.
Water: Dave =====How much water do you give each plant a day? Do you give a larger percentage of water to the main root system?
FARMER TOM: Why do you let your plants die of disease, and why did you allow the disease to kill your 705 plants?
orange one: How often do you water
Buckeyepollinator: It depends greatly on how hot it is but about 300-400 gal a day misting.
furie dad: Do you bury the vines?
Walcott Pumpkin: on all plants????
Buckeyepollinator: Farmer Tom, is that question for me?
Mark P...: each plant dave 300-400 gallons
FARMER TOM: Yes. Nic Welty said that you let your plants die of disease.
FARMER TOM: Sorry if I was unclear.
Eldridge pumpkin: Dave, a question, just what is the pH balance, that the pumpkin should have?
TomMan: Tom, sometimes you can't do anything about disease.
FARMER TOM: Sorry, I must have misunderstood what Nic said.
Buckeyepollinator: Sounds like alot but that is max heat and plant size over a 2-3 hour period misting.
Thomas: Dave, how did the Calcium baths work that you were giving the pumpkins last season?
Buckeyepollinator: My weights were close to over chart something I never did before I will do it again.
Eldridge pumpkin: Another question? I Heard that straw in good to place in the spot , in which i would be planting, my pumpkin?
TomMan: Dave, I was not in here at the start, how many plants did you have that were alive at the end of the year? Obviously at least 3.
Brian C.: Will you explain your calcium baths?
Buckeyepollinator: I mixed pure cal. with water soaked towels in it and covered the fruit.
Buckeyepollinator: I don't like it because of the weed seeds I pull enough weeds as it is.
Farmer Scott: Dave, whats your biggest one week weight gain on a fruit ever?
Polka Dot: Dave have you ever compost fed your pumpkin plants?
John G: Is the calcium the same sort they use in apple orchards? Does it helps heal small cracks and skin splits?
Buckeyepollinator: Not sure what you mean dot
Paul835: Do you allow Jerry Rose near your patch?
lv107: Dave, do you use fish, seaweed, or Kelp meal on your plants?
Buckeyepollinator: The stuff I used is labeled for that application.
ALUN J: Yo Dave...do you use IRONITE?
Buckeyepollinator: No Ironite for me my metals are high enough as it is.
Mark P...: name of the cal.
Buckeyepollinator: Hi paul -only under armed guard and I really like the seaweed to finish.
Kurt: hi dave-- new grower here-- what one or two things did you do to go from average sized fruits to the "biguns"?
Eldridge pumpkin: Another question. What do you guys, and gals cover your female, plant with before you polinate?
Polka Dot: I read an article on it written by George Brooks. The concept being that plants seek out nutrients(especially compost) with their root systems.
TomMan: I saw "Big Fred" at the tour, what were the fastest growth rates per day at?
Buckeyepollinator: about 30#'s a day
FARMER TOM: wow, that's 1 of my personal bests in one day
Buckeyepollinator: I compost very heavily in the fall my organic matter % in my soil is about 20%
Farmer Scott: What was your biggest one week total weight gain on a fruit ever?
Buckeyepollinator: Over 200#'s on my 1140 and that scarred the hell out of me!
huffs pumpkins: Dave, do you feed nitrogen all through the season or just as pre-patch prep?
Thomas: Dave, what is the average length and width you let your plants get?
Polka Dot: I have put in about 30 yrds of aged manure so far. Would it hurt trying this compost feeding method? Diagram shows compost on either side of the pumpkin mound. & Yes I got it Judy
Eldridge pumpkin: How about liquid nitrogen, has any one used it?
TomMan: I also saw teh 850 Walace offspring, at that time, it was very beautiful, and had no dill rings or any other deformities, did something happen to it, or was it just they way it grew?
FARMER TOM: was that 200 pound growth in sept., because I heard it put on a lot of weight in sept.?
orange one: Dave, do you trim very other secondary on the main?
Polka Dot: what type of shade cover do you use Dave?
John D.: (slow down a bit, give Dave a chance to answer)
Buckeyepollinator: Composting is always a good idea just don't get it to hot and watch your salts
K&PBlair: Some growers are not fans of heavy foiliar feeding, how about you?
Buckeyepollinator: I use plastic tarps I have been trying to get them in orange it is supposed to promote growth
Eldridge pumpkin: Dave, I one big question, soil prep. , what is your sug.?
Buckeyepollinator: I try to get the majority of nutrients from composting but you gotta do what ever it takes
Pappy: What is your favorite composting material?
Buckeyepollinator: soil prep is the biggest make or break after seed selection I spend 2 months in the fall getting ready for the next year
Buckeyepollinator: Leaves.
jeff352: How often do you check your pH during the season?
Buckeyepollinator: 2 times April and July pollination time
pumpkin kid: Dave, as a fellow Ohio grower will you be let down when you lose this year?
Eldridge pumpkin: Just what should the pH balance be for the pumpkins?
John D.: (Be patient with the chat program, our server is at record throughput levels)
Buckeyepollinator: It's a new year and it's anyones race to win but as my good friend Dick Baird always said "the bullshit stops when the tail gate drops"
john boy: Dave, how long do you let your main vine grow, and the secondary vines grow?
Buckeyepollinator: Main 25-30' side vines 15'
Thomas: Dave, what type watering system do you use to water at ground level?
Pumpkinpicker: Dave how deep do you till in fall and spring?
Mark P...: How big was your plant that grew your 1140
Buckeyepollinator: 500 sq. feet.
Buckeyepollinator: I over head water only no soakers.
pumpkin kid: Dave after I attend tomorrows beginners meeting in Canfield I feel I'll have all the info I need to be state champ possibly the world champ.
Buckeyepollinator: It's one thing to learn it aplying it is a more difficult task
K&PBlair: Dave, how far out do you set your fruit from the planting spot?
furie dad: Dave, do you bury the vines?
Brian C.: what's your water source? do you try to warm it at all?
Buckeyepollinator: I water from a farm pond I don't warm my soil only at planting and yes I bury only the side vines.
Thomas: What is your highest temps in your hottest part of the season?
Buckeyepollinator: 90-100 degrees
andy W: Dave, since you've grown both the 705 and 846, which seed do you like better (for those trying to recreate one of those crosses)
Buckeyepollinator: Tough question Andy, I think it's more luck than anything.
Mark P...: Not the main vine Dave?
Walcott Pumpkin: Dave, why bury only the sides and not the main?
Eldridge pumpkin: That's a good question, is okay to bury vine, so to speak on top of the grass, or turf?
Buckeyepollinator: I don't bury the main so I can move it for pumpkin set and so I can watch for rot.
pumpkin kid: Dave I have 1 of your 705's is this a good seed I was thinking of trading it?
Buckeyepollinator: If you have a 705 plant it if you don't want to use it I could always use another!
Polka Dot: Dave, do you have a problem with cuke beetles?
Buckeyepollinator: Does a one legged duck swim in circles?!? But Furadan puts a big curb in their diet!
K&PBlair: Sorry to ask again. How far out do you set pumpkin from the planting spot?
Pappy: What date do you plan to plant this year?
John D.: Dave what is your favorite website?
Buckeyepollinator: May 1st same every year BigPumpkins of course!
Polka Dot: What do you set under the fruit
John G: Disease control,do you alternate with a few diff. ones, i.e, daconil, copper, etc ?
pumpkin bill: Dave, do you use calcium nitrate, if so how much?
Buckeyepollinator: Yes I alternate about 4 fungacides and yes I use cal. nitrate
furie dad: Dave how long do you let the side vines grow before you start to bury them
Buckeyepollinator: I bury side vines as soon as they hit the ground.
John Mc: What is left for you to grow now, bigger pumpkins, long gourds, giantwatermelons?
Eldridge pumpkin: Is there a time frame, that I need to know with hand polinating, The time from when the female flower opens?
pumpkin kid: Dave how about your 801? Because I got a couple of them for a wedding present 2 years ago and was thinking about throwing them out
Buckeyepollinator: I guess if you don't need them I will take them off your hands better than in the trash!
kilrpumpkins: kid, better throw out those 801's and 705, what's your address and trash pick-up day?
Brian C.: Do you remove every other secondary?
Water: Dave, what method do you use when starting your seeds?
Pumpkinpicker: Dave, how deep do you till?
Buckeyepollinator: I till 8-12"s deep with a reverse tine tiller
jeff352: Do you have to deal with much humidty?
Buckeyepollinator: I leave all 2nd vines and I start my seeds in the oven it's gas and the pilot light keeps it at 85-90degrees
Clancy: Dave, what do you put under your pumpkins?
Buckeyepollinator: I use paper mill fabric.
pumpkin kid: Dave I'll proably plant them and hopefully i can beat my pesonal best of 960
Eldridge pumpkin: What's to say what's go and isn't , can any body tell me?
Ken D.: Looks like pumpkin kid is a "plant", hi Jerry!
pumpkin kid: Took a while
Ken D.: I cheated. :-)
Buckeyepollinator: Is that you Jerry
Paul835: Sneeky!
pumpkin kid: Who else might beat you this year?!?
Case: LOL...too funny!
Suzy: How do you shade your pumpkins?
Desnowskeer: LOL!
Buckeyepollinator: sounds like kitty is going to grow
kilrpumpkins: seeds!
furie dad: Dave, do you water at night or during the day?
pumpkin kid: Remember dave learned every thing from me so I'll jump in and correct him when I see fit
Buckeyepollinator: long with big shoulders
Paul835: You taught him too much Jerry he beat you
John D.: Dave's done a super job so far, how about letting him take 5?
Desnowskeer: How deep is your premium soil Dave?
K&PBlair: OK Jerry. How far out do you prefer to set fruit from planting spot?
pumpkin kid: Hey i'm next month
Buckeyepollinator: Thats right I watched everything Jerry did then I did the opposite!
Ken D.: Dave, take a short break and we'll do some plugs.
Ken D.: We are pushing the server to the max tonight. Please be patient.
Ken D.: Thanks to Neptune's Harvest once again. I will do the drawing at 11:00
Ken D.: Winners can choose seaweed, fish, or blend.
Farmer Scott: I'm getting chills!
Ken D.: Jerry will be up for the next chat, so save some hard questions!
Paul835: Jerry: Do U know who all is coming to Niagara seminar in April from your area?
John D.: I will be posting a schedule, but the next Featured growers are:
John D.: Brett Hester, Thursday March 14th
John D.: Jerry Rose, Tuesday March 26th
John D.: We hope to have Craig Weir in the neer future as well.
John D.: Special thanks to Kilrpumpkins for arranging these "Featured Growers"
huffs pumpkins: Yes Kilr, FINE job Hoss
Thomas: I like Green.
Pappy: How much direct sunlight does your patch get each day?
kilrpumpkins: Thanks, dudes!
pumpkin kid: Dave just called me and gave me hell for harrassing him see this is what half the fun of growing these things is about a lot of good friends
Buckeyepollinator: kilr you da man!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ken D.: Dave, let us know when your ready....
NicWelty: wow there are a ton of people in here
pumpkin kid: Not the guru
NicWelty: Just had to check it out
Buckeyepollinator: let's do it
Ken D.: let em fly
K&PBlair: Dave, how far out do you try to set fruit from the stump?
Buckeyepollinator: 10' not an inch less and as far out as I can in the time frame I set.
Pappy: How much direct sunlight does your patch get each day?
Buckeyepollinator: Virtually from sun up to sun down full sun.
The Pumpkinguru: Dad, you look busy with all these people.
Case: now settle down ken..lol
Buckeyepollinator: hey son always have time for my boy
Thomas: Do you ever put any systemic soil treatmant before you plant for grubs and such?
Buckeyepollinator: Grub-x works good.
Joze: Dave, if you are familiar with hybrid vigor, do you believe it applies to AG's?
Buckeyepollinator: not really jose
Joze: Any particular reasoning why?
Buckeyepollinator: Jose thats a good question for Nick Welty. Way out of my league.
The Pumpkinguru: I'll just watch tonight, Dad teach us how to grow pumpkins.
John D.: (The Pumpkinguru is Brett Hester)
kilrpumpkins: This is turning into a "heavy hitter" re-union!
lv107: Dave, What kind of starter fertilizer do yo use? Any speacial granular ferts. used? Thanks.
Buckeyepollinator: Miracle grow early and 6-24-24 granular.
Suzy: How often do you fertilizer after the fruit sets and how often?
Buckeyepollinator: I fertilize every week. Rate is determined by growth rates.
The Pumpkinguru: Dad, how do you choose which fruit is the one that gets to go the distance? Do you do it by symmetry of blossom, 14 day measure, or just what?
Buckeyepollinator: I pick the chosen one as soon as possible probably 7-10 days after pollination.
Clancy: Based on what?
John G: You look for flat spots, etc?
Buckeyepollinator: Segments, did it take pollination, shape
John D.: Dave, can you tell us the story behind "Flat Stanley"?
Pumpkinpicker: Dave do you pollinate anything on 2nd vines?
Buckeyepollinator: No, I only have a limited time to pollinate and I concentrate on the main.
john boy: Dave, do you plant in the same area every year?
Randoooo: Dave, at what point do you shade the pumpkin from the sun if at all?
Mark P...: Orange tarps, do you think there is anything to that Dave?
Buckeyepollinator: I shade as soon as I know it is the one about 14 days it protects the fruit from leaf and other damage
Brian C.: So once you've chose a pumpkin to keep, do you pollinate any more?
Buckeyepollinator: Yes, just in case it aborts but they don't stay on long. I don't want anything taking away from the chosen fruit.
Bantam: Dave, Did you have problems with powdery mildew last year?
John G: How large do you let the pumpkins get before you start dead-heading vines?
H-K-J: How many Sq. ft do you grow in (sorry if it has been asked came in late.)
Buckeyepollinator: about 750
Walcott Pumpkin: per plant I assume?
Thomas: Dave, beside the Orange colored tarps, what is the best color on tarps you have found to work the best?
John G: your pulling my leg dave
pumpkin kid: He does i've been there
Tim459: hi all... make room...
Farmer Scott: Dave, where are you getting your colored tarps from?
Buckeyepollinator: I got 2 from canada and I can't find an out let in the S
Farmer Scott: canada's a pretty big place........can you narrow that down a little :)
Buckeyepollinator: Hey scott Simcoe. I was visiting George Lloyd and they were using them there.
Buckeyepollinator: I terminate all sides at 15' and the main depends on how late in the season it is
H-K-J: and you let the main grow??
Buckeyepollinator: no I terminate the main
H-K-J: At the same time as your sides?
The Pumpkinguru: Dad, which do you like better, your 801 or your 705, and why?
Buckeyepollinator: Tough one son probably the 801 it a more active and bigger plant
The Pumpkinguru: I'm planting them both I guess in 2002
Pappy: What one important piece of advice would you give to a new grower?
FARMER TOM: What does buckeye pollinator mean? I've heard buckeyes are lucky, is that why you use that name?
Mark P...: Ohio buckeyes, Tom
furie dad: Do you water at night or day
john boy: Dave, do you plant in the same area every year?
Clancy: Dave, do you dig a pit and fill with compost to plant in ?
Buckeyepollinator: No. I found if you dig a pit it acts like a soup bowl in clay soil.
Buckeyepollinator: Yes but I fumagated this past fall. Too much disease.
huffs pumpkins: What did you fumigate with?
Buckeyepollinator: Bazamid.
H-K-J: Is there any one fertilizer you use and think it is the most important?
Buckeyepollinator: They all have a place and time in the growing season but cal. nitrate works good for me.
Kurt: Dave, have you heard about using old greenhouse potting soil in the patch? If so, any opinion?
Buckeyepollinator: I wouldn't use it there may be disease in it.
Pumpkinpicker: Dave I'll be growing a 801 this year ( thanks to IPGA) any advice on how to keep it together?
Clancy: Dave, do you till or plow
Buckeyepollinator: Till only.
Water: Dave do you plant on a hill? How high is your hill if you use one?
Buckeyepollinator: I mound a little 6" or so
pumpkin kid: A little to early
H-K-J: How deep and how wide is your hill??
Pappy: Have you ever used rabbit poop?
Buckeyepollinator: No wabbits or their excrement in my patch
Buckeyepollinator: My bet is on Nick Welty.
Farmer Scott: i know what happens to wabbits in daves patch...
John G: soup!
Pappy: wabbit stew?
Buckeyepollinator: be careful scott
pumpkin kid: Dave get's out his elmer fud hat
Buckeyepollinator: and 12 gauge
Farmer Scott: LOL :)
farmerpumpkins: What do you think about sheep manure?
Buckeyepollinator: Sheep is good but with any manure try and stay away from straw mix.
Mark P...: What in your opinion has made you the grower you are today Dave?
The Pumpkinguru: Dad, do you think there is a 1300 pound seed out there, if so, name your top three if you could
Buckeyepollinator: Son, you have the tough ones tonight I haven't really gotten that far research as yet but the 1053.5 and 955 will be high on my list.
Tim459: Dave.... did you say what type of disease trouble you encounter up that way? thus the need to fumagate.... further what types of fungicides might you use during the season... if yo already answered this. I'll catch the transcript... thanks...
H-K-J: When you make your hill, how deep do you go and what do you put in it .compost or manure or whatever?
Farmer Scott: Dave, what is your tentative 2002 lineup?
pumpkin kid: Dave tell them how you move a 700 lb pumpkin when it's putting to much presure on the vine
Water: Dave I would like to know how to move a 700 too
Buckeyepollinator: you call jerry and fred and pull
Randoooo: I would love to have to worry about moving 700 pounders.
The Pumpkinguru: Cool tidbit, thanks Dad.
FARMER TOM: what are the crosses of your 1053 and 955?
Buckeyepollinator: 1053.5 f-calai 846 m- 801.5- 955 f-wallace850 m-stelts 1140
farmerpumpkins: What do you think about starving AG for trying to make them stronger for the next season.
K&PBlair: Dave, I plan on growing this seed, it's a 924.5. Others have told me I'd be better off with generic seeds. What's your thoughts?
pumpkin kid: Ken-ah-don't ask for seeds again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
K&PBlair: Just kidding!
FARMER TOM: 700 divided amongst 3 people is about 233 pounds per person, do you guys do much lifting during the winter? lol
drcompost: Dave, any Grindle seed this year?
Buckeyepollinator: Do your trading now and if you can't get what you want buy good seeds off a rep. pumpkin group
pumpkin kid: Doc what are you stirring up?
Buckeyepollinator: All out of grindles! Hi Ron.
drcompost: Just asking
Buckeyepollinator: Be careful Carol is sleeping next to me
drcompost: Sorry
Winnie: Super Dave does that mean less time in the patch this year?
Buckeyepollinator: Hey Winston no more she gets me out of the house that way.
Randoooo: Dave, what works best on cuke beetles?
Buckeyepollinator: Furadan as you might have guessed it kills everything even fish right scott?
Farmer Scott: LOL!!
pumpkin kid: and birds
farmerpumpkins: What do you think about sevin, does it harm the plant in anyway?
pumpkin kid: FURADAN!
Randoooo: Oh no we gotta worry about birds, too?
Buckeyepollinator: Furadan, it's a three generation killer the bug the bird and the cat!
Farmer Scott: LMAO!
H-K-J: And you use that right <;-)
drcompost: and mice
pumpkin kid: Furadan is bad for the first 24 hours after that it's in the plant.
guy: Dave you said you dont bury main vine. What keeps thee borers off it.
huffs pumpkins: Dave have you ever used a zig-zag method when training your vines to get more vine in less space
kilrpumpkins: Martha Stewart paid too much!
Buckeyepollinator: very flattering and the money goes to the best organization in the world the Ohio Valley. Sorry I'm a little pregidous!
John Mc: How does it make you feel when your seeds bring $601.00 apiece?
Brian C.: Do you use any back vines or do only use the christmas tree?
Buckeyepollinator: No. Straight x-mas tree style.
Buckeyepollinator: No back vines
drcompost: Dave, got to go see you tomorow night
Buckeyepollinator: bye ron
Brian C.: How far away from the edge of the patch do you plant then.
Buckeyepollinator: I keep the stumps 5-6' apart so I can get to them any time I want with out damaging the plant
K&PBlair: Do you grow your plants back to back?
Buckeyepollinator: Yes.
Buckeyepollinator: My plots are 30'x30' the stump at one end and the main grows to the other
Heidi: Dave, have you tested for OM% yearly?
Buckeyepollinator: I do complete soil analasis 2 times a year and disease test once now.
John G: Do you spray the pumpkins with Furadan?
John D.: What was your most memorable experience while holding the world record?
Buckeyepollinator: The roar of the crowd when the scale stopped on 1140 and Tim Parks said it was a new world record and sharing that moment with the people who got me there.
andy W: Dave, I have an Excel file with a bunch of soil test results from different growers. I would love to add yours to the file, and I'm sure you would like to see it. What do you think?
Ken D.: where do you get a disease test done?
Bill Van: Dave, Do you test for pathogens?
John D.: Two minute warning...
Buckeyepollinator: I test for every thig I do not want any surprises in the middle of the season.
Bill Van: Where do you get your test for pathogens done?
Buckeyepollinator: I send my soil to A&L labs in CA.
H-K-J: Is there any certain depth you dig for your mound?
K&PBlair: Do you till in any fungicdes and Insecticides for grubs?
Brian C.: Do you think growing the vines north south east or west makes any difference?
Buckeyepollinator: Not really.
John D.: Lets give Dave a round of virtual applause...
steve(3): Thanx Dave!
jeff352: Thanks Dave!!
Walcott Pumpkin: THANK YOU DAVE!!!
