To almost all creatures, light = FOOD. I'd say metal window screen offa roll placed around all and buried a few inches would be much better and you could then see if any chewing-through occurred. Maybe just around the pumpkin. Even then they'd climb over it, as they do my garage walls - pretty crazy. Just a suggestion(s). eg
