Last year was my first effort growing an Atlantic Giant, and this year, I'm thinking about trying to grow a big field pumpkin as well (have grown lots of regular field pumpkins in past). I'm curious when people are pollinating their field pumpkins and how long they continue to size after pollination? Is it similar to Atlantic Giants where I'll be looking at 100 or so days before the weigh-off?

I believe Mark told me he starts June 1 for late september weigh off, pumpkins grow for about 50 days after pollination. Here's what he told me.

"The growing of a field pumpkin from seed to harvest is a lot shorter than an AG because the fruit only grows for about 50 days. As you will see from my diaries I sow my seeds on the 1st of June and normally set my fruit 12 ft + out on the main vine anywhere between the 1st and the 10 th of August. My weigh offs are the last weekend of September, the first weekend of October and the second weekend in october. I normally end up removing fruits a few days ahead of time before my last weigh off for the simple reason I fear they will split on me if the weather is unsettled. My general thought is that a marrow/fp fruit needs 7 full weeks on the vine after pollination day to max out but they can still split after they have appeared to stop growing so that's why I sometimes remove them early to avoid the risk of splits.
Obviously of your weigh in us earlier than mine you will need to start earlier."
