Just wondering what folks think about this one. Last year, I had a 198.5 and 172 on the same plant. Pretty good for up here, but I'm sure it cost me a 200# melon on that plant. I'm not sure how much weight a second one steals, but it's probably something.

How have others done with multiples on a plant?

Hey Andy. I had 254 and 204 on the same plant before.The second one in a more favorable position and 4 days younger passed the first by day 20. In hindsight I probably should have culled the first one. It was a year where nothing was setting on any of my plants. So by the time I got a melon where I wanted it the first one was so large I just couldn't cull it.

I am in a similar situation this year. I have a nice large one at 18 days and one I like on the main at 8 days. I am going to measure the older one today and check my previous years 20 day measurements and decide. Very hard for me to cull a 70 lber

For best size, always go with one watermelon per plant.

I agree, it's tempting, "but in the end there can only be one". That's an old quote I have always remembered from James White (Minnesota Melon Man).

These days I would probably only keep two or more on a plant if I were selling Giant melons and had some buyers lined up.
