Soil sample taken from the best tomato growing area. I took the soil sample from about 8" depth to avoid anything I added recently.

1) despite 2" of rain yesterday, it has a nice crumbly texture. I was able to screen it through a 1/2" mesh screen with no gumminess.
So it behaves as though it is not fully saturated even though it is.

2) I found bits of charcoal and even a bit of ash from awhile ago guessing within the last 10 years this was a fire pit. Hmm...

3) An unbelievable amount of worm activity. They have bulldozed the top 6" of soil more than I would ever care to do with my own two arms. Its been pullverized by worms. If that even makes any sense.
