I've noticed this growing in the glass tubes (pre-season madness) that each extra leaf adds about a foot to the length of the roots... I wonder if this would hold true as a good & useful approximation for larger plants as well. A plant with 10 full leaves can be assumed to have 10 ft roots? Etc...?

I have found roots 20+ feet out from the stump/ crown. It seems like this approximation would hold true until the pumpkin was pollinated and growing.
