This year I planted my LGs about 5 feet away from the trellis, so they have covered a considerable amount of flat ground before making their way up the trellis. I buried the vines on the ground to try and get another root out of them. Is this a terrible idea, I know people tend to have disease problems with LGs? I plan to uncover them after a week or so. Both plants are 139.25 Ansems.

I'm just letting secondaries run on the ground and then up the trellis. They do root down. Main disease for me is a brown spot that gets the leaves, then fruit and vines, appears to be airborne fungus. likely anthracnose.

They've been buried since Monday so I will have a look and see if there are any roots coming.

Jim, the main will root just sitting on the ground, at each leaf node. I don't bury any of the vine, for me, I start to get a rot on the vine. I experimented a few years back about bigger root system on the LG's. It didn't have the results I was looking for. My LG gained a lot of girth, but not length. It was as round as my thigh. That one was only 91.75" long, but that seed grew my 141.25" last season.
