I'm gonna try lg's this year and i'd like to know what kind of structure to build. I have limited space to have them however that won't stop me. Can somebody let me know. [email protected]

Hi Kenny:

An 8x8 will work but if the LG gets to the ground dig a
hole for the LG to grow into. I covered my trellis with what is called hog wire, it has openings of 4x4 inches.

One caution, use strong supports the plant puts a
lot of stress on the structuree.

The size of your trellis is kinda determined on
how much space you have available, they can
stand a little shade.

Have a look at these Kenny. The 1st trellis belongs to Tom Corkum and is the largest I have seen. The other two pics are mine. Simple and lo-tech. Like Bob said, it's what you can fit.

hey kenny i saw an old post about making it out of pvc plastic pipe cant find post im using 2inch pvc 4foot wide at the top 8foot long and 12 foot high, top has lattice on it. 20 pieces of pipe and 3 4x8 sheets of lattice , not building mine till december, will send u a pic when its done!!! pizza ps. home depot has the pipe cheaper than wood!!!!

I built a cheap one this year using six 2x4x10's and essentially built it like a set of monkey bars. I drilled holes into each side of the 2x4's and inserted 4 foot wooden dowels up both sides and across the top about 8 inches apart. It worked just fine but in the later stages of plant growth, the structure began to sag in the middle. And it sure liked to sway in the wind!

I like the PVC idea! Does anyone have any plans or pictures of such a structure?

Kenny, check my diary for photos of my trellis. It is basically cattle panels looped between steel fence posts. I use wire between the posts for extra stability. Since the bottom of the cattle panel is a few feet off the ground, I use tomato cages for the vines to grow up in to start.

I am going to make changes to it next year. I am putting it on my creek bottom and digging a drainage ditch under it. I am switching to 8' long steel posts to get more height. And I am setting the posts farther apart. That should give me more vine room. Last year I had 3 plants for 2 cattle panels. This year it will be one plant per panel.
